Byrd's Paradise
Fly to Relaxation

About

Welcome,  Im Byrd, your favorite Licensed Mobile Massage Therapist.

Believe it or not, I wanted to be a member of the WNBA as a child. As I grew older that suddenly changed.

Massage therapy is something my older cousins (Tyisha and Asia) introduced me to around the age of 9. Whenever they would come over or we visit, they'd ask if I could walk on their backs and give them a massage. I always received positive feedback for it. On my 13th Birthday, my Mother surprised me by taking me to A Relaxed You Day Spa for my first professional massage experience (I later received my very first professional job as a MT). This experience helped me notice at very young age that I was great at something else outside of being an athletic female.

It wasn't until I was away at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale when I realized that Massage Therapy was my calling. It is the only way that I can honestly and genuinely help people without making their problems my own; while insuring my own happiness and well-being in the process.

Freshman year I was a social work major because I have a passion for helping others. Then I shortly realized I was too much of an emotional being to actually handle the pressure and worry that comes along with being a social worker after your shift ends and the client is back to their reality. Which is the reason I changed majors sophomore year to Business Management with emphasis on Entrepreneurship and a minor in Sports Administration with a focus on Coaching. Seeing to it I love sports and helping others, I felt like my decision to switch majors would then make me enjoy the time I spent in the actual classrooms.

When in reality it only made me realize how much more I was in the wrong professional field. The more I tried telling myself that switching my majors was the best decision; the more I felt like I was forcing myself to conform to a lifestyle that society forces upon us all instead of doing what makes me happy inside and out.

I was not happy away at school so I joined Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity to learn more about business. I always wanted to have my own business where I could help those in need. After accomplishing that, I was still unhappy because I did not feel like I was serving a purpose but going to school to gain a degree in fields that would not guarantee a job upon graduation that could fully support a post-College debt lifestyle instead.  So I decided to discontinue my education at that institution and enrolled at The Cortiva Institute downtown in Chicago.

The moment I stepped into my first class, I just felt like my entire world changed for the better. From the instructor to the students, the energy was so powerful and positive which made me eager to learn. From that moment on, I knew in my heart that becoming a Massage Therapist was my true calling.

Upon becoming Licensed I created a mantra to help motivate and inspire myself to be the change that I'd love to see in this world. Hopefully it does the same for you one day! It reads:

"Live for a purpose to prevent working for a living."

As I stated previously, Massage Therapy is the only thing that allows me to help others without making their problems my own. If money did not exist or if we did not need money to pay bills, I would do it for free because it insures my own happiness knowing I'm able to assist someone in a time of need naturally and positively.
